There are three levels of RHS Qualification: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Within each of these levels there are qualifications which can be studied independently, or combined with other qualifications in the same level.
\n
\nAll RHS Qualifications are designed to be studied on a part-time basis, normally over the course of a year
\n
\nPlease note: new and updated RHS Level 2 Qualifications will be available from September 2022. The updated RHS Level 3 will be available from September 2023. Our current Level 2 and Level 3 Qualifications are currently being deprecated and will cease accepting registrations after 31 March 2022 and 31 March 2023 respectively (except Garden Planning where registrations will be accepted up until 31 March 2023).

\n
\nLevel 1: Aimed at 14 – 19 year olds and adults with additional learning needs.
\n
\nLevel 2: Perfect for those wanting to begin a horticultural career or looking to establish a foundation for further learning or training.
\n
\nLevel 3: For those already working in horticulture and wanting to further their career or specialise in a particular area of interest.

Depending on the qualification you have chosen, you will be able to choose from different learning styles.
\n
\nPlease note: All RHS Qualifications are taught through an approved centre. The RHS does not teach RHS Qualifications. We ensure value and high standards through our Ofqual accreditation and spot check reviews of learning providers.
\n
\nHere’s a brief summary of how each style of learning works:
\n
\nDistance learning: Online, remote learning with complete flexibility over when and where you study. Great if:

\n\n
    \n\t
  • You cannot commit to a regular schedule of classes
  • \n\t
  • You’re unable to travel to an approved centre
  • \n\t
  • You’re looking for flexibility to learn at a time and pace that suits you
  • \n
\n\n

Approved centre: In-person classes at a site such as a college. Great if:

\n\n
    \n\t
  • You prefer more structured learning
  • \n\t
  • You’re looking to complete practical RHS Qualifications
  • \n\t
  • You work best with in-person support and alongside like-minded learners
  • \n
\n\n

Blended learning: Available at selected approved centres from September 2022. A mix of both styles of learning and offers flexibility to learn both theory and practical qualifications with the same provider.

\n","title":"Step 2: Decide how you want to learn"},{"collapse":true,"text":"

Once you know the qualification you would like to complete, and the style of learning you would prefer, begin to look for an approved learning provider:
\n
\nSearch for an approved learning provider
\n
\nPlease note:

\n\n
    \n\t
  • All learning providers set their own fees. Costs will vary depending on the style of learning, the location and other factors, such as the format of learning materials and provision of tutor support
  • \n\t
  • To understand the assessment process of your chosen qualification and timeframes, we recommend you speak to your chosen learning provider who will guide you through the process
  • \n\t
  • We recommend you get in touch with a few learning providers to understand more about the style of learning they provide and what is included within their fees
  • \n
\n","title":"Step 3: Choose a learning provider"},{"collapse":false,"text":"

Once you have enrolled on your qualification with your chosen learning provider your studies will begin. Your learning provider will be on hand to provide all the support and guidance you need and we hope you enjoy the qualification.
\n
\nOnce you have successfully passed the required assessments for your chosen qualification, the RHS will award you with a certificate.

Upcoming changes to RHS Qualifications\n\n

What you need to know and how it affects your studies

\n\n

We are adapting our Level 2 and 3 qualifications to give learners the skills they need to succeed in the modern workplace. Our revised Level 2 qualifications will replace the current versions from September 2022 and Level 3 will replace the current versions in September 2023.
\n
\nTo prepare for the switch, no new enrolments will be permitted on our existing Level 2 Practical and Plant Growth theory qualifications (Levels 2 and 3) after 31 March 2022. We will continue to offer the existing Garden Planning qualification (Levels 2 and 3) and suite of Level 3 Qualifications until 31 March 2023. Don’t worry if you’ve already started your studies, there’s still plenty of time to finish and, if needs be, you can do a combination of the new and old schemes.
\n
\nOur Level 1 qualifications, aimed at 14-19 year olds and adults with additional learning needs, remain unchanged.
